Recent work: johnnie-O button-downs for TMHA

TMHA, the Texas Manufactured Housing Association, ordered 15 johnnie-O button-down shirts for their November conference, with the logo on the left chest at about 3.25" wide. Their navy, red and gray logo clashed with the blue plaid. We stitched three thread options side by side on the actual shirt and picked a dark blue that stays in the shirt's color family but still reads clearly.

How we stitch a dress shirt

Small and clean.
A chest logo is usually about 3" wide, 3.5" at most. A larger logo makes a dress shirt look like a promo item.

Placed by size.
On larger sizes we shift the logo slightly so it sits in proportion with the chest.

Any placement.
Left chest is the classic. A cuff, sleeve or back yoke also work.

Thread matched on the real shirt.
Plaids and stripes can swallow a logo, so we test thread colors on the actual fabric.

The right fabric.
Dense woven cotton such as poplin, oxford and twill takes embroidery best. Stretch shirts can pucker around the logo, so we test first and usually suggest a woven cotton.

Names on shirts

We can add each person's name under the logo or on the cuff, about $15 per name depending on the order.

You get a digital proof and a test stitch. After approval, embroidery takes 5–7 business days.

We ship anywhere in the US. A small box, such as samples, typically goes for $15–25 by USPS. Larger orders and shipping to each person's address are quoted with your order.
